What Kind of Woman Are Y'all?
In spite of Adele, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, and Beyoncé, the music industry is still largely a man's world. Women's voices are missing. At the same time, however, women remain a favorite topic for pop, rock, country, and R&B songs.
Many popular songs refer to us as "girls" and attempt to lump us into neat categories. They draw women by our physical features or as belonging to a man. They compliment united states of america equally pretty girls or denigrate us as overly emotional. Popular songs also evaluate united states as smart or stupid girls, good girls, bad girls, evil girls, mean girls, or naughty ones. And sometimes they portray us equally potent, brave, authentic women. Thankfully, women are three-dimensional and complex.
Make a playlist to celebrate the full range of the female person identity. We have a huge listing of songs to kickoff you out!

The narrator acknowledges that in reality, she's much more 3-dimensional—for example, sometimes forgetful but also smart and fun.
three. "Fat Bottomed Girls" by Queen
Praising the virtues of ladies with too much junk in the trunk, the grown man in this 1978 archetype rock vocal recalls where he got his love of big boned women. It seems that Large Fatty Fanny, the naughty nanny who looked after him as a youngster was doing things that would get her arrested nowadays.
This is one of those pop classic songs that wouldn't fly today. Equally much equally I love this tune (because hey, I grew upward on it), the lyrics brand me go, "Expect. Whaaaat?"

Does the Music Manufacture Have a Gender Gap?
Forget Rolling Rock'southward 1997 proclamation that women have started to rule pop music. Totally untrue. Sure, there'due south Adele, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Beyoncé, merely there's a gender gap in the music manufacture you lot might non accept been enlightened of. I wasn't aware myself until I interviewed musician Emma Cole, a talented young R&B vocaliser, then researched the issue.
Male songwriters and producers far outnumber females in the music industry by a whopping margin of 49 to one. Dude musicians receive more radio airplay—especially on country stations, where 9 songs by male person artists are featured for every i vocal past a female artist. Men also dominate the Top 40 charts, and as a result, they sell also more than CDs and concert tickets.
In 2015, a prominent land music manufacture consultant made the jaw-dropping suggestion of taking female musicians off land music radio in the name of improve ratings. "They're just not the lettuce in our salad. ... The tomatoes of our salad are the females." (He may take simply said out loud what many music executives think.)
And then there are the industry awards. Nine out of ten Grammy nominees are men, and in early on 2018, the Recording University president attributed this to women needing to "pace up" more.
Think almost this when you lot're making your playlists, watching a music industry awards show, or buying tickets to that next concert.

Flourish, great songs, and what amazing statistics; they should be shocking (only they aren't). Icky that in the 21st century at that place is withal a gender gap.

Mary - Some of the facts and statistics are surprising. I hope they'll resonate with some readers. The more than we know, the more nosotros can brand a positive difference. While some of these are classics, many others are lesser known. I simply wish some of the lyrics were cleaner. Accept a wonderful week ahead!

A great list of songs. I accept listened to many of them over and over over again. Music, touches the heart and soul of the listener. Each one tells a story and that story can be heartwarming, a story of pain, a story of success. Thank you for reminding me of some of those songs.
